"Preaching as Moral Imagination"

First Sunday of Lent Reflection

During Lent, it is a common practice to "give up" something. If this is an important practice for you or even if you would like to engage this practice for the first time, I encourage you to give up something that makes a difference not only during this church season but for the rest of your life.

Rather than giving up candy or caffeine, for example, how about trying to give up anger? Envy? A hatred of a particular group of people? Worry? Of course, this can't be done perfectly, but that isn't the point. The purpose is to work towards a lasting change and improvement that benefits your understanding of yourself and your relationships with others and with God.
