Silent Night, Holy Night...

...Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace

As a child, I remember every year holding a lit candle in the darkness of the sanctuary, singing "Silent Night." There was something holy and mysterious about the experience that captivated me, and as I grew older, this congregational hymn was and is a strong connection with the sacred.

Last year was the first time I really noticed the third verse, quoted above. "With the dawn of redeeming grace..." Can you picture the sun emerging over the horizon on a calm, still morning, its colors bursting throughout the sky? Can you imagine that moment as the "dawn of redeeming grace" from God?

Find yourself a photo of a sunrise here, bring it to full screen, listen to Silent Night, and contemplate and celebrate the dawn of God's redeeming grace on our world as we wait with expectant hope for Emmanuel to come. Amen.
