The Rev. Karen Brau, ordained in 1990, came to Luther Place Memorial Church in December 2009 after serving as Pastor of Amazing Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Baltimore for 18 years.
The Rev. Brau graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1988 and did her course work at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 1989–1990. She grew up in various parts of New York state, where her father, the Rev. Henry Brau, served as a Lutheran pastor. Rev. Karen Brau is a 1981 graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, majoring in economics. After graduation from Hamilton, Rev. Brau worked in New York City at a major commercial bank for 4 1/2 years.
Rev. Brau is a member of the DC Synod Young Adult Ministry Steering Group and is engaged in the Clergy Caucus of the Washington Interfaith Network. Rev. Brau also serves on the Board of N Street Village. She is passionate about building vibrant communities of faith in urban settings. She views Luther Place as a great opportunity for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and for living out what the Gospel means in today’s world. Building on a rich history of engagement with the homeless poor and social justice, she believes that Luther Place is a congregation that is able to gather a broad range of people to live out God’s radical love in new and exciting ways.
