Prior to his appointment at Duke, the Rev. Dr. Luke A. Powery served as the Perry and Georgia Engle Assistant Professor of Homiletics at Princeton Theological Seminary. He received his B.A. in music with a concentration in vocal performance from Stanford University, his M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary and his Th.D. from Emmanuel College at the University of Toronto. Gracious God, 

We thank you for the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ. We thank you for your willingness to walk among us. And we thank you for this time of Advent to prepare and to wait in expectant hope. 

Please help and guide us as we witness to your coming and as we share in this good news with all of your beloved children. Sometimes it is hard to believe that you would really walk among us. Thank you, God, for the incredible gift of your Word made flesh, and help us to open our hearts

Walter Brueggemann is professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary, where he served from 1986 until 2003. He also served as president of the Society of Biblical Literature and has lectured at universities and seminaries across the country and around the world. Bio

Donald Davis grew up soaking in the language of a family of traditional storytellers in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina.  After graduating from Davidson College and Duke Divinity School, he was ordained in the United Methodist Church and spent twenty four years as a parish minister. Throughout this time Davis was called on more and more as a storyteller and a teacher of storytelling.  In 1991 he retired from the parish phase of his ministry to devote full time to travel
